The French Bulldogs are affectionate and playful dogs. They are known for their wrinkly, smushy face and bat-like ears. Moreover, they are great companions for single pet-owners. They are ideal dogs for families with children. French Bulldogs need little exercise and grooming. They are incredibly loyal to their people. Because of their somewhat said stubborn nature, they require a bit of patience during training. However, they are incredibly intelligent and eager to please. Although cute and cuddly-looking, a French Bulldog has a big personality. Getting that, makes him a civilized companion. Contrary to the stereotype as “stubborn”, most French Bulldogs strive to please their owners. Therefore they are very trainable with the proper motivation.
History of the French Bulldog
In looking at the history of the French Bulldog, we should consider the influence of three countries. England, France and America are the main players. England gave us the basis for our modern Frenchie, which is the Old Bulldog. Breeders in France came up with the smaller bulldog. American breeders set the norm that prescribed the typical “bat ears”. Carrying this charming look lead to a fast expansion of this dog type. The 1980s witnessed a rapid rise in Frenchie registrations due to a newly energized French Bulldog Club of America. Popularity of Frenchies skyrocketed, particularly among the East Coast Society folks.
